Youtube Ultra Success

Ever run over to Smosh’s channel and refresh, just for the fun of it and watched as their numbers climb more in the few minutes you’ve sat there then yours have all week and wonder, why not me? No? Ptttttt…. Me either! ;) In all seriousness, I would never wonder why my videos don’t appeal to a large audience such as the viewers of Smosh. They’re funny, attractive young men that make over the top videos, videos that really have no bearing on real life society, i.e. they’re just plain fun to watch and you never have to think… ever. WHATTHEBUCKSHOW is a success. Why? Simple, Michael Buckley always has a smile on his face, hardly ever takes a breath between words and is always willing to poke fun at a celebrity. More just plain fun stuff. Fred, a what seems to be overnight success on Youtube, has videos that once again, are over the top, fun, quick, and contain easy to follow story lines. Sure, you’ll peruse the front pages of the most viewed Youtube and find random videos of Asian women kissing or copywritten material from Family Guy, but the majority of those are one hit wonders and will not achieve any long term Youtube success. My interpretation of what makes a channel wildly successful is the perfect combination of the following;
1. You must appeal to a large audience, but more importantly that audience must include the teenie bopper aged audience as this particular demographic tends to share videos more often with each other and become hordes of fan girls/boys.
2. Proper equipment and professional editing technique is a must, even when that editing technique is meant to make look as though you didn’t try and can be as simple as the way you cut a scene and finally,
3. It has to be interesting! A large audience doesn’t want to hear about my terrible babysitter or your last book review!

So follow those simple steps and you’re clear on your way to overnight Youtube ultra success! For the other 99.9% of us that will never ever in a million years achieve such an ultamite goal because, let’s face it, we’re not young/old enough, ugly/cute enough, smart/dumb enough, level headed/drama queen enough, let’s all have fun making videos for our smaller audiences to enjoy!

I’m still trying to “find myself” as a vlogger/video maker. What I do here, will never be mega anything… So in the meantime, I’ll support others.

Now, if you want actual sound advice, check ‘s out Alan’s blog, which is my new favorite blog reading with my morning coffee. :)

  1. Viral Video Wannabe says:

    Glad you’re enjoying the site. I agree, all of us could switch things up if we wanted more subs, pitch-shifting your voice is pretty easy… I think what most long for is for vlogging to become popular, most viewed and most subscribed. But it’s just not going to happen. You may find a decent sized audience, but vlogging (unless it’s scripted) will always be more intimate and smaller.
