I climbed onto the plane, as I do 8 times a week, most days I think nothing of it. We taxied out to the runway, nearly all the planes had left for the mainland. We started down lane six, gaining speed and then lifting up with ease. Over the runway and out to the ocean. The whitecaps peaking atop the deep blue waves. We climbed to our usual 1-1500 feet just in time to see the sun gently falling behind the horizon. I watched as the clouds that we were nearly even with were lit all shades of pinks and purples. That’s when I noticed the pilot look back at me once or twice as I watched the sunset. Finally, as the sun made its final decent and the darkness attempted its daily takeover, the pilot looked back yet again and said, loudly over the din of the engine, “Did you enjoy that sunset?!” to which I of course replied, “Yes! It was spectacular!”
“Wanna see it again?!!!” He yelled back over his shoulder…. He smiled an evil little grin…
Straight UP we shot! The force of the sudden upward motion pushing back down at me! Squished into my seat, smile plastered to my face and giddy like a schoolgirl, I was delighted to see the sun come popping back up into sight…. Just in time to see the fiery ball of gas fall out of the sky…. again…
Weeeeeeee!
