We all know trolls, we all have haters, it’s nothing new, especially for those of us that have been in the depths of chats, forums, message boards, live webcasts, comment sections, etc for decades. We block, we delete, we ignore. I happened by the Mashable blogpost that a 19 year old man had committed suicide… live, on JustinTV.
Abraham K. Biggs, a “lifecaster” posted a suicide note detailing how he had “tried at life and failed” several times, how he felt he wasn’t good enough for the love of his life and how much he hated living. It also explains how he planed on OD’ing later that evening. Mr. Biggs “troll” status apparently didn’t help when it came to the moderators of the website taking the allegations that a suicide had taken place.
After some time of not moving, a viewer in India was finally able to contact the authorities after hitting a few road bumps first. The chronicle of events was easily found on the web as of this morning, however, more and more links are no longer valid as many of the websites hosting the suicide notes and videos of the gentleman’s door being busted in have been removed. I read chat screenshots of the onlookers in the chat room watching the drama unfold in front of them as authorities charged in, guns drawn, breaking down the door, wood flying everywhere, laser beams set on the body all captured in time, until they turned off the camera… One live viewer described it best, “OMFG!”
And although I’m always saddened by the news of any death, let alone the suicide of a young man, I wasn’t surprised that it happened with an audience. Whether it be as simple as a status update via Twitter or Facebook or something more in your face like a show on Blogtv, we are an increasingly always “on” society. I’m quite sure more and more private events will be broadcast for the whole world to see, LIVE!

The problem I have with the whole thing is that people actually egged him on. You know how you did that video on YouTube Haters? Sometimes, the anonymity of the internet causes people to be so disgustingly cruel. It’s like we sometimes forget there’s a human being that’s the life behind the voice and text we see on the screen. I recently made some videos about my dislike for Prop 8 and I got so many hate comments, it was dizzying.
i heard of this!
it really saddened me
its terrible what ppl do on the internet for attention!
